Credit: Scarlet PageLed Zeppelin‘s Jimmy Page has helped design a new guitar amplifier called the Sundragon, a recreation of the amp he used to record his famous band’s 1969 self-titled debut album. The amp faithfully reproduces the sound of the original amp.
In honor of the album’s 50th anniversary, a limited-edition run of 50 of the hand-built amps will be produced this year, each one signed by Page.
Page’s original Led Zeppelin amplifier was a Supro Coronado that had been modified and restored prior to the group’s formation after it was damaged when it fell out of a van.
To create Sundragon, Jimmy worked closely with Colby Amplification founder Mitch Colby and veteran producer, musician and guitar collector Perry Margouleff.
“I had been impressed with the forensic analysis both Mitch and Perry had put into the research of the sonic reproduction of the original Supro amp to arrive at the Sundragon,” Page says in a statement.
A mass-produced version of the amplifier also will go on sale later this year.
According to PremierGuitar.com, the Sundragon will be on display during the 2019 2019 NAMM music-equipment trade show, which takes place January 24-27 in Anaheim, California.
