BMGAfter announcing plans to release a new solo album this year via a new label deal with BMG, ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder has revealed more details about the project to Rolling Stone.

The album, which features some big-name guest stars, is called American Rock ‘n’ Roll and will hit stores on April 5.

“I wanted to bring in as many people as possible to share the experience with me,” he tells the magazine. “I knew it should be bright, cheery and fun or it wouldn’t be worth doing.”

Among the artists lending their talents to American Rock ‘n’ Roll are Slash, Bob Weir, Sammy Hagar, Mick Fleetwood, Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

Slash appears on the album’s title track, which celebrates the history of rock music from the Woodstock era to the present day.

“Slash lives really close to me,” notes Felder. “He came over, brought his guitar, plugged into one of my amps and we traded off on some solos. He actually plays on the part of the song that mentions Guns N’ Roses by name.”

Fleetwood and Smith also are both featured on the tune, which you can check out now at RollingStone.com.

Felder duets with Hagar on a song titled “Rock You,” which features Sammy’s Chickenfoot band mate Satriani on guitar and backing vocals by Weir.

Felder says he plans to play three or four of his new songs at his upcoming solo tour dates.

Meanwhile, Don tells Rolling Stone that he no longer feels any animosity toward his former Eagles band mates, and would “play with them again in a heartbeat.”

He adds, however, that he’s certain Don Henley would “have a different opinion about what the future would look like involving me.”
