Random House Books for Young ReadersThe cover of Paul McCartney‘s upcoming illustrated children’s book, Hey Grandude!, has been unveiled. The book which will be published on September 5, is available for pre-order now.

As announced this past September, Hey Grandude! was inspired by the ex-Beatles star’s own experiences as a grandparent, and tells the tale of a grandfather who takes his four grandkids on a series of magical adventures. The cover shows the main character and his grandchildren, as well as a vintage telescope and a map of part of the world.

In a note on his official website, McCartney writes, “I’m excited to share the cover of my new children’s book Hey Grandude!, which will be out later this year. I’ve worked on this with a great illustrator called Kathryn Durst and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”

Adds Durst, “Working on this book with Sir Paul McCartney has been an amazing experience and I can’t wait for its publication…I had so much fun working on the illustrations for the book, and I hope others will have just as much fun reading it!”

The post also features illustrations of McCartney and Durst, both created by Kathryn.

According to the Random House Children’s Books website, Hey Grandude! is meant for kids ages four to six.

A description of the book explains: “Grandude is a one-of-a-kind adventurer! With his magic compass, he whisks his four grandkids off on whirlwind adventures, taking them all around the globe. Join them as they ride flying fish, dodge stampedes, and escape avalanches!”

Prior to the release of Hey Grandude!, McCartney will mount the North American portion of his 2019 Freshen Up Tour, which gets underway May 23 in New Orleans.
