Concord RecordsSantana‘s new EP In Search of Mona Lisa was released today on CD and digitally, while a vinyl version is due February 22.

The EP features three new songs that were inspired by a visit Carlos Santana paid to the Louvre museum in Paris, during which he saw Leonardo da Vinci‘s masterpiece the Mona Lisa for the first time.

Recalling the experience of seeing the famous painting, Carlos says, “I heard her say to me, ‘Hi.’ It was stunning…And then she said, ‘Do you remember me? When we were lovers in another time?'”

“It was the most incredible occurrence, and in a way, it was kind of perfect that I had never been to the Louvre before, because this might not have happened at another time,” he adds. “I had to be who I am now, knowing that God is everywhere and that He was saying, ‘I love you,’ by sending me this message of inspiration and visualization.”

On Thursday, GuitarWorld.com debuted an official video for one of the new tunes, “Do You Remember Me?,” which you also can watch at Santana’s YouTube channel.

The clip begins with an animated segment that shows the Mona Lisa and other famous paintings depicting women all morphing into each other, followed by footage of the band performing the Latin-flavored tune.  It features Santana singer Andy Vargas on lead vocals.

The track was produced by Rick Rubin, who also is producing a new full-length Santana album due out later in 2019.

The EP’s other two songs — the title track and “Lovers from Another Time” — feature contributions from renowned musician, producer and songwriter Narada Michael Walden. Walden co-produced and lent his drum talents to both tunes, and also played some bass and keyboards on “In Search of Mona Lisa.”
