Anderson began recording the album with a group of musicians that included Yes bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White, but shelved the unfinished recordings for many years to focus on his famous band and other musical endeavors.

Eventually, veteran producer and pianist Michael Franklin, who earlier had worked on orchestrations for some tracks, convinced Jon to revisit the project and complete the unfinished songs. During the last year or two, Anderson worked on the album at Franklin’s studio in Orlando, Florida.

Franklin also recruited various guests artists to contribute to the record, including Yes guitarist Steve Howe, Jethro Tull‘s Ian Anderson, Journey‘s Jonathan Cain, Rick Derringer, Deep Purple‘s Steve Morse, the Tower of Power horns, and jazz greats Chick Corea, Billy Cobham and Jean-Luc Ponty.

Anderson also recorded four brand-new songs for the album.

“I’ve spent long periods of time making some records, but I’ve never taken a journey quite like this one,” says Anderson. “To say that 1000 Hands has been a long time in coming would be quite an understatement, but I’m thrilled that it’s finally a reality and that my fans will now be able to hear it. And I think they’ll be delighted to hear music that’s timeless.”

Anderson will support 1000 Hands with a U.S. solo tour that kicks off with a March 11-12 engagement at Disney’s Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida, and is mapped out through a May 12 appearance at the KAABOO Texas festival in Arlington, Texas.
