The track is one of four remixes of “America” that were released digitally and via streaming services this past Tuesday, February 12, in honor of what would’ve been Manzarek’s 80th birthday.

The original version of “America” appeared on Nite City’s second and final album, Golden Days Diamond Nights. Manzarek wrote the tune as an homage to the American Dream while touring across the U.S. as a solo artist. Nite City’s lineup also included bassist Nigel Harrison, who went on to play with Blondie from 1978 to 1982.

Krieger recorded his solo for the “America” remix earlier this year. You can check out all four remixes of “America” at Manzarek’s YouTube channel. The videos also feature background information about the song and about Nite City.

In other news, Robby and his solo band will be playing a concert with special guests on Thursday, February 21, at The Village Studios in Los Angeles that will be taped for an upcoming episode of the PBS performance series Front and Center. Fans have the chance to win free tickets to the event at Front and Center‘s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Robby Krieger Band currently has two other concerts lined up, on March 1 in Houston and March 2 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
