Paul Shaffer will host a new AXS TV interview series that’ll feature David Letterman‘s longtime band leader chatting with a variety of music stars, including Graham Nash, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, Steely Dan‘s Donald Fagen, and Sammy Hagar.

Paul Shaffer Plus One is a half-hour program that will see Shaffer talking in depth with his guests about their career highlights, influences and experiences. The show will be taped in a recording studio with Shaffer sitting at a piano, and at times he may give impromptu performances certain songs that he’s discussing with his guests.

“In this show I get to go one-on-one with all my favorite recording artists,” says Shaffer in a statement. “We talk mainly music and if the topic turns to a specific tune, we demonstrate in song. It’s a dream come true.”

Other celebrities scheduled to be on the show include blues legend Buddy Guy and comic actor Harry Shearer, who will appear as his This Is Spinal Tap character Derek Smalls. Shaffer, a longtime friend of Shearer’s, made a cameo in the famous rock mockumentary as record company promotion man Artie Fufkin.

In addition, an hour-long version Paul Shaffer Plus One will air on satellite radio. A premiere date for the show has yet to be announced.
