The Steve Miller Band recently announced plans for a brief headlining tour of the Southern U.S. in March.  Now the group has lined up a lengthy stateside summer trek that also will feature veteran country act Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.

The trek, which is billed as “An Amazing Evening of Original American Music: Classic Rock Meets Classic Country,” kicks off June 13 in Des Moines, Iowa, and is plotted out all the way through an August 30-31 stand in Woodinville, Washington. The tour includes 35 dates, while Miller also has two headlining shows scheduled on off nights of the outing.

The spring tour, dubbed “An Evening with Steve Miller Band,” runs from a March 12 concert in Clearwater, Florida, through a March 24 gig in Southaven, Mississippi.

In other news, Steve Miller will receive an honorary degree in music from his one-time alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, on May 10 during the school’s commencement ceremony at the Kohl Center. Beginning in 1961, the future Rock & Roll Hall of Famer spent seven semesters as a comparative literature major at the university, including a year abroad studying at the University of Copenhagen.

Miller left the university without graduating, moving first to Chicago — where he honed his skills as a blues guitarist — before making his way in late 1966 to San Francisco, where would find fame with the Steve Miller Band.

Steve has maintained a close relationship with the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and in 2017 he donated proceeds from a local concert to the Chancellor’s Scholarship Fund. He also met with students there to discuss careers in music.
