BenBella BooksNeil Young has co-written a new book called To Feel the Music, which tells the story of his mission to bring higher quality audio to the music business.

The book, which will be released on September 10, is collaboration with Phil Baker, who helped the folk-rock legend develop Pono, his high-resolution digital-audio service and player.

As Neil explains in an online statement, “To Feel the Music is the story of my efforts to improve the quality of audio that you hear. It takes you through how the sound was, and is, compromised by the tech and record companies, and instead of improving over time like other technologies, it has become worse.”

He adds, “Our book also tells the business and development story behind Pono, and then, when people wanted the convenience of streaming, how we developed Xstream high resolution streaming.”

Xstream, which Young says is “the highest quality streaming in the world,” is the audio delivery system on his expansive Neil Young Archives website, where he’s made his entire catalog available to fans.

To Feel the Music is available for pre-order now. It’s Neil’s third book, following his respective 2012 and 2014 memoirs, Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream and Special Deluxe: A Memoir of Life & Cars.
