ABC/Randy HolmesThe 2019 Ride for Ronnie motorcycle ride and concert, held annually in honor of late Dio frontman Ronnie James Dio, took place Sunday in Encino, California, and the event featured a surprise performance from Dave Grohl.

The Foo Fighters frontman sat in on drums to play a few cover songs with current Thin Lizzy vocalist Ricky Warwick, Black Star Riders bassist Robbie Crane and former Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson. The group ran through performances of the Lizzy classic “Jailbreak” and Motorhead‘s “Bomber.”

Ride for Ronnie, now in its fifth year, benefits the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, which was founded by the metal icon’s s widow, Wendy. The fund helps in cancer prevention, research and education by distributing funds to various charities and medical facilities.

Ronnie died on May 16, 2010, from stomach cancer at the age of 67.
