Craft Recordings

Craft RecordingsEarlier this year, Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford told ABC Radio that the band’s full set at the 1969 Woodstock festival finally would see light of day in 2019.  Now comes word that the performance will be released on August 2 on CD, as a two-LP vinyl set and digitally.

Live at Woodstock will feature CCR’s complete 11-song, hour-long show, which included renditions of the band’s hits “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising,” other gems like “Born on the Bayou,” “Green River” and “Keep On Chooglin’,” and the group’s classic covers of “I Put a Spell on You” and “Suzie Q.” CCR’s performances of Keep On Chooglin'” and “Suzie Q” were extended, 10-minute-plus jams.

Creedence was near the height of its popularity when it played Woodstock and the band was supposed to perform during a prime slot on the evening of Saturday, August 16, 1969.  But because of delays — including a long set by The Grateful Dead — the band didn’t hit the stage until after midnight on the 17th.

Feeling that the performance didn’t represent the group at its best, CCR declined to be included in the Oscar-winning 1970 Woodstock documentary and soundtrack album. As a result, many people were unaware that CCR even performed at the festival.

In advance of Live at Woodstock‘s release, the show’s first tune, “Born on the Bayou,” has been made available as a digital single and via streaming services. You also can check out the track, which includes the stage announcement introducing the band, on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s official YouTube channel.

Live at Woodstock can be pre-ordered now.
