If Roger Daltrey is to be believed, Who fans are going to love the band’s upcoming studio album.

NME.com reports that during a Q&A held Thursday at the group’s London pop-up shop, The Who @52, Daltrey declared, “I think we’ve made our best album since [1973’s] Quadrophenia.”

The singer admitted at the event, which will open to the public Friday at 10 a.m. local time, that he initially was skeptical about whether he could do justice to the songs Pete Townshend wrote for the project.

“I thought Pete had written a really great solo album and I said to him, ‘Pete, what do you need to do this for? Release it as a solo album, it’s great,'” Daltrey explained. “But he said he wanted it to be a Who album.”

However, Roger said that after he listened to the songs a number of times, he began to come up with ideas on how they would work as Who tunes.

“[Pete] let me have a bit of freedom with changing a few things, changing the tenses of songs and other little things. And he gave me complete melodic freedom,” Daltrey noted. “And I gotta tell you that after being very skeptical I’m now incredibly optimistic.”

Daltrey also revealed that The Who are planning to play a couple of the new songs at the band’s July 6 concert at London’s Wembley Stadium.

“I think they will fit in with this show,” he said. “It’ll prick your ears up, and even though it’s something you haven’t heard before it will captivate you.”

No word yet on when the album will be released.

As previously reported, Daltrey will take part in a fan Q&A starting at noon local time, 7 a.m. ET, while visiting the pop-up shop on Friday.
