John Fogerty revealed Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America that the former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman will release a new live album called John Fogerty’s 50 Year Trip on October 25.

The album was recorded at Fogerty’s June 20, 2019, show at Red Rock Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, and was part of his ongoing My 50 Year Trip tour, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of CCR’s performance at the Woodstock festival and the eventful year of 1969 in general.

Fogerty tells ABC Radio that he’s “pretty excited” about the release, noting that he “had a lot of fun” with the show.

The 74-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer points out that one of the interesting aspects of the tour is that he and his solo band are “covering some songs from 50 years ago that were done by other artists.”

While the album’s track list hasn’t been finalized yet, the covers Fogerty played at the Red Rocks concert include The Beatles‘ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” The Who‘s “My Generation,” Sly & the Family Stone‘s “Everyday People” and “Dance to the Music,” and John Lennon‘s “Give Peace a Chance.”

Fogerty says the covers chosen were both songs he loved and tunes that significantly reflected the era.

“Of course there’s a million songs I like,” he explained, “but we kind of narrowed it down to things that seemed to mean something right at that point in time.” 

Not surprisingly, the bulk of the tunes played at Red Rocks were CCR classics, with some memorable songs from Fogerty’s solo career also included.

During his GMA appearance, John played a medley of his CCR hits “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising” and “Proud Mary.” You can watch a video if the performance at GoodMorningAmerica.com.
