Redferns/Getty Images/Courtesy of SHOWTIMEA new David Bowie documentary titled David Bowie: Finding Fame get its U.S. television premiere tonight on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The 94-minute film focuses on the early years of the late rock legend’s music career, from the late ’60s to 1973, when he killed off his Ziggy Stardust rock-star alien character that helped catapult him to stardom.

The movie features archival interviews with Bowie in which he discusses the origins of many of his inventive ideas, and also includes new conversations with some of David’s early collaborators.

In a preview clip from the documentary posted on Showtime’s YouTube channel, we hear Bowie explaining how having a short attention span affected his creative approach.

“I was a very curious and enthusiastic person,” he declares. “I just had to accept that I was a person that had a very short attention span, would move from one thing to another quite rapidly, then I got bored with the other.”

In another segment of the video, David shares how he was confident in his artistic vision, saying, “Somehow I knew that what I was doing was important, taking elements from areas that really shouldn’t sit comfortably with each other.”

David Bowie: Finding Fame is the third in a trilogy of documentaries examining different periods of Bowie’s career, following 2013’s David Bowie: Five Years and 2017’s David Bowie: The Last Five Years. The new film first aired on U.K. TV earlier in 2019 under the title David Bowie: The First Five Years.
