Credit: Frank MelfiRobert Plant fans who are going to be in the Bay Area during the first weekend of October will get the chance to see in the Led Zeppelin singer perform for free.

Plant has joined the lineup of this year’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival, which takes place October 4 to October 6 at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Robert previously performed twice before at the free annual event, which celebrates bluegrass and other genres of roots music: in 2008 with Alison Krauss; and in 2011 with his Americana group, Band of Joy.

Other artists on the 2019 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass bill include Emmylou Harris, Tanya Tucker, The Waterboys, Steve Earle & the Dukes, Meat Puppets, Bettye Lavette and Buddy Miller. Miller was a member of Plant’s Band of Joy.

Robert’s appearance at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass comes at the end of his forthcoming North American tour with his current backing group The Sensational Space Shifters. The trek, which will feature a mix of festival appearances and headlining concerts, begins with a September 13 appearance at Canada’s Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
