Courtesy of TIFFThe new Bruce Springsteen concert film Western Stars, which features the New Jersey rock legend performing the 13 songs from his new album of the same name, will open in theaters this fall via a new distribution deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.

As previously reported, Western Stars gets its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 5 to September 15. An exclusive preview of the movie will be shown before screenings of the new Springsteen-inspired coming-of-age flick Blinded by the Light, which opens today.

The Western Stars film features Bruce performing his full album accompanied by a band and a full orchestra in an old barn that he owns. Springsteen’s wife, E Street Band backing singer Patti Scialfa, makes a guest appearance.

In addition to the performance, the movie includes archival footage and narration from Bruce, who reflects on the themes covered on the album, such as love, loss, loneliness, family and the American dream.

Western Stars was co-directed by Springsteen and his frequent collaborator Thom Zimny, whose Bruce-related credits include the Springsteen on Broadway Netflix special. This marks Springsteen’s directorial debut.

Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich. “With Western Stars, Bruce is pivoting yet again, taking us with him on an emotional and introspective cinematic journey, looking back and looking ahead.”
