Joan Jett and country music superstar Carrie Underwood teamed up for a performance earlier this summer at Nashville’s annual CMA fest — and now they’re reuniting for this year’s Sunday Night Football open.

The two stars will perform the original SNF opening number, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which is actually based on Joan’s 1988 hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

“I have always been a huge fan of Joan’s,” says Underwood. “And I’m thrilled that she’s joining us for the Sunday Night Football open. What better way to pay homage to the original SNF opening song than by getting to play with her on prime time’s biggest stage?”

Turns out it was Underwood’s idea to add Jett to the mix.  The executive producer of NBC’s Sunday Night Football says, “We immediately embraced it as a terrific way to evolve the performance, while also celebrating the song we used in our first 10 seasons of SNF. We were excited when Joan agreed to join us, and we can’t wait to debut the finished product.”

For the first time ever, this year’s open was filmed at an NFL stadium, with as-yet-unannounced players joining Underwood and Jett at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

You can get your first look at this year’s theme this Sunday night, during halftime of the Steelers/Titans pre-season game, which starts at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. You’ll be able to see the full version before the first official game on Sunday, September 8.

This is Underwood’s seventh year in a row starring in the Sunday Night Football open.
