ZZ Top recently canceled the first four scheduled dates of their 50th anniversary tour‘s North American leg so drummer Frank Beard could recover from a bout of pneumonia, but now “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas” is set to launch the trek tonight, August 21, in Woodinville, Washington.

ZZ Top’s 50th anniversary tour features a total of 50 dates and is plotted out through a November 9 show in Shreveport, Louisiana.  As previously reported, Cheap Trick will be the support act at most of the shows, while Lynyrd Skynyrd will open a pair of dates: August 23 in Irvine, California, and August 24 in Concord, California.

ZZ Top also recently lined up a New Year’s Eve concert in Durant, Oklahoma.

In addition to many headlining shows, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are slated to take part in a number of festivals during the trek, including the Texas International Pop Festival in Lewisville, Texas, on August 31; Bourbon and Beyond in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 22; and the Exit 111 Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, on October 12.

Meanwhile, ZZ Top singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill were on hand for a premiere screening of the band’s new documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas in Hollywood on Tuesday, August 13. The duo also took part in a Q&A at the event. The film began being shown in theaters across North America starting this week. Visit ZZTopFilm.com for more details.
