The seven-song collection, titled Red Shift, is available now as a digital download and via streaming services. In addition, a unique video has been created for each tune that can be viewed now at Krieger’s official YouTube channel.

Red Shift was formed in 1978, when a Doors fan and singer named Mack McKenzie visited Krieger with a demo tape of his songs, hoping that Robby would collaborate with him. Krieger listened to the tape and agreed to work with McKenzie, then recruited some musical friends to round out the group: bassist Arthur Barrow and drummers Don Poncher and Vinnie Colaiuta.

Red Shift hit the studio to record the tracks, played a few gigs in the Los Angeles area, and then — for reasons unknown — disbanded.

Now, 40 years after the quirky, jazz- and new wave-influenced tunes were recorded, they can finally be heard. The songs are all credited to McKenzie, Krieger and Barrow.

Meanwhile, Krieger has two confirmed upcoming shows on his schedule. The first, on September 28 at the famed L.A.-area club the Whisky a Go Go, features Robby playing with his regular solo band. The second, on October 10 at Bogie’s Bar in Westlake Village, California, features Krieger with his new side project, The New Experience.
