Sunset Blvd. RecordsEagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit is among the many guest artists who’ve contributed to Have Harmony, Will Travel 2, a new duets album by veteran roots rocker Carla Olson that will be released on March 20.
Olson celebrates her love of intertwining voices on the 11-track collection, which is a sequel to her 2013 album Have Harmony, Will Travel. The new record features seven new collaborative tracks and four archival tunes.
Schmit lends vocals to a new cover of the 1967 Buffalo Springfield tune “A Child’s Claim to Fame,” which was written and originally sung by Timothy’s former Poco band mate Richie Furay. The track also features Poco’s Rusty Young on dobro, banjo and acoustic guitar.
Carla says of working with Timothy, “Approaching [him] seemed awkward at first, because he’s such a big star. But he is so sweet, so kind, and so generous with his time.”
Other artists who collaborated on new tracks with Carla include and Herman’s Hermits frontman Peter Noone, veteran English rock singer Terry Reid and former Bee Gees lead guitarist Vince Melouney.
Among the archival tracks are duets with late soul great Percy Sledge, late founding Byrds member Gene Clark and actress/singer Mare Winningham.
Sledge sings on a song called “Honest as Daylight” that also features ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor and that originally appeared on Carla’s 1994 album Reap the Whirlwind.
Clark duets with Olson on “Del Gato,” a tune he co-wrote that was included on their 1987 collaborative album So Rebellious a Lover.
