One person is dead following a crash in Benton Harbor Wednesday.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says officers were sent to the scene on Britain Avenue near Pipestone around 2:40 p.m. The crash involved one vehicle and one driver.

Police say the vehicle had been westbound on Britain at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over and sliced through a power pole. They believe the driver was killed instantly.

The driver’s identity has not been released out of respect to family.

Assisting at the scene were the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, the Benton Township Police Department, and the Benton Township Fire Department. Sheriff’s department chaplains were brought in to console the crowd, which was primarily made up of family members.

An autopsy will be performed on the driver.
